Insane in the membrane
As if it wasn’t enough that Comcast wanted a huge brain that Jon Lovitz could cozy up in, they also wanted it to feel and act real. But what does a real brain feel and act like? We decided it had to be firm but malleable, wiggly but tight, and pinkish but not too pink.
And thus we created the Comcast brain, using a two-teamed approach that let us cover more ground in less time. One team went straight to basics, defining the fabrication method we’d use, as well as the look of the brain — generating and testing a variety of materials to get it just right. The second team figured out our construction approach in CAD, engineering a support structure that could withstand the weight of this very large prop and the guy sitting on it.
